Transformers Universe

Unicron

Allegiance: None

Function: Universal Dominator

First Comic Appearance: Transformers: The Movie #1

"That which does not become a part of me, shall become one with the great void."

Profile: Created shortly after the dawn of time, Unicron is the most massive and deadly of all the Transformers. His goal is to absorb the universe!

Abilities: The size of a large planet, Unicron derives sustenance from munching planets, moons, and even stars, thus making him larger and increasing both his power and his appetite. When it serves his interest, he has been known to make pacts with lesser beings, offering them stronger bodies and greater powers in exchange for their total allegiance. Woe be it to the would-be betrayer, for Unicron possesses the ability to both give and take away. With the mere thought of treachery, the slave will find his body involuntarily twisting into painful contortions. Among his numerous subjects are the Quintessons, who hunt down anyone who escapes his wrath. The deadliest secret of all is that this rumbling juggernaut, when threatened, can transform into the goliath of robots, capable of swatting armadas to dust and tearing whole planets apart with his bare hands.

Weaknesses: Unicron fears only one thing- the Autobot Matrix of Leadership! His mission for Galvatron: "Search out the galaxy and bring it to me!"

A planet-sized being whose ability to eat planets distinguished him. He had a vulnerability to the Autobot Matrix, which he was well aware of.

Cartoon Bio (US):

Unicron was created by Primacron for the purpose of destroying the universe, though it remains a mystery why he wanted to do so. Able to travel through space, devour whole planets, and manipulate objects around him, he went from system to system eating everything in sight.

Millions of years later, Unicron devoured the planet Lithos on his way to Cybertron. At this point, he was able to gather that the Autobot Matrix of Leadership had the power to destroy him, and that it had been passed on to Ultra Magnus. Unicron then intercepted Megatron, who had been cast adrift in space by Starscream. He offered to give Megatron a new body and new troops to command, in exchange for him destroying the Matrix for him. Megatron reluctantly agreed, and was changed into Galvatron. The other Decepticons who had also been cast from Astrotrain were changed into Cyclonus, Scourge, the Sweeps, and at least one Cyclonus-clone. (The Cyclonus clone was presumably destroyed during the second battle of Autobot City, since he was never seen again.)

Galvatron succeeded in taking the Matrix from Ultra Magnus, but instead of destroying it, he used it to blackmail Unicron. However, he was unable to open the Matrix, and Unicron swallowed him as punishment.

Unicron transformed into his humanoid mode and physically attacked Cybertron. Apparently led by Shockwave, the Decepticon troops occupying the planet fought back, but with little effect. The Autobots, using a Quintesson cruiser and a Junkion starship, joined the battle. The Dinobots were able to cause some damage to Unicron's posterior, but did nothing serious. The Junkion ship was able to withstand some sort of flame that was fired from Unicron's mouth, but was ultimately destroyed when Unicron caught it in his hand and crushed it. Badly damaged, the Quintesson ship collided into Unicron's eye, destroying it and causing the ship to fall apart.

Hot Rod fell out of the disintegrating ship and ended up coincidentally in the same region as Galvatron. Galvatron proposed an alliance between the two, but Unicron wracked his body in terrible pain until he agreed to destroy Hot Rod. Hot Rod gained possession of the Matrix and used it to become Rodimus Prime. When Galvatron shot the Matrix out of his hand, Rodimus threw him through Unicron's exoskeleton and out into space. He then regained the Matrix and used it to annihilate Unicron from within. Rodimus then found the other Autobots inside and led them out through Unicron's remaining eye, destroying that also. The only part that remained intact following the explosion that engulfed Unicron was his head.

In 2005, Cyclonus led a group of Decepticons into Unicron's head to try and locate the whereabouts of Galvatron. They were successful in activating and using Unicron's computer, and though Cyclonus reassured Scourge that he was dead, Scourge was unconvinced. Scourge turned out to be correct, and though Unicron was now relatively powerless, he was indeed still alive. In a deal with the ghost of Starscream, Unicron recreated his body in return for help in regaining his eyesight and obtaining Cybertron for his new body. Starscream did get the eyes by stealing them from Metroplex and Trypticon, but Unicron was unable to get Cybertron.

Comic Bio (US):

Unicron was a "fallen god" possessed of "power beyond measure," whose main drive was his near-insatiable hunger. Feeding on entire star systems, he continued his task unhindered until he eventually succeeded in devouring the entire universe. At this point, he fell into a sleep, his hunger finally appeased.

However, a single fragment of that universe was able to escape the destruction, and, being sentient, this fragment was able to use Unicron's sleep to its advantage. During this time, it rebuilt the universe without waking Unicron, and transformed its sentient core into a protector for the new universe: Primus. Unicron eventually woke and immediately began destroying the universe again. Primus fought back, but it became clear that brute force was insufficient against him. Primus then took the battle into the astral plain, but Unicron overwhelmed him there as well. In an act of desperation, Primus suddenly left the astral plain with Unicron in close pursuit. Intent as he was on destroying Primus, Unicron didn't realize that he was being led into a trap. As a result of the act, both minds were trapped inside planetoids.

Soon, Unicron realized that he could psionically shape the metallic mass of the planet he occupied. In time, he changed it into a planet with the following capabilities: devouring whole planets and processing them into energy, independent space flight, nonlinear timestream access, psionic manipulation of metallic masses in the immediate vicinity (down to an atomic level), and transformation into a humanoid mode. Once able to do so, he again journeyed the universe devouring everything in his way.

Meanwhile, Primus had converted his own planet into Cybertron, on which he created the Transformers, intended to be the universe's last line of defense against Unicron. He then allowed them to evolve naturally while he shut himself down to avoid detection from Unicron.

On Cybertron, several million years later, a fight between the Autobots and Decepticons resulted in a stray shot waking Primus, which immediately caused Unicron to track him down. Unicron, knowing that the Creation Matrix was in fact the essence of Primus's life force, sent Hook, Line, Sinker, and an alternate timeline's Galvatron to Cybertron to destroy it before his arrival. Instead, Galvatron turned on Unicron's other servants and helped Emirate Xaaron contact Primus for help. Thus, when Unicron finally arrived on Cybertron, the combined Tranformer army was there to meet him (with a few exceptions). In the resultant battle, many Transformers were killed, but Optimus Prime was able to regain the Creation Matrix from Thunderwing and opened it while inside Unicron. The explosive force of pure good meeting pure evil tore apart Unicron's body, apparently killing him.

Comic Bio (UK):

The dark god Unicron, also known as the Chaos-Bringer, is a demon with powers beyond the comprehension of beings such as the Transformers. His only wish is to destroy all life in the universe. As a giant metal world he travels through space devouring planets to sustain his energy requirements. As a robot warrior whose size and power makes Metroplex look insignificant he is virtually invincible.

Unicron's one weakness is the Creation Matrix, the essence of the light god Primus. When the universe was in its infancy the two fought as energy beings until Primus, to save the life that was being wiped out as they fought, tricked his enemy and trapped both their essences in barren lumps of space debris. Over billions of years Unicron psionically reshaped his prison into its current form, while Primus became the planet Cybertron, creating the first Autobots to one day fight Unicron and safeguard the universe.

Unicron learnt of Cybertron's location in 1990 when Primus was awoken by accident. He arrived in 1991, and the combined forces of Optimus Prime and Scorponok were unable to stop him. Only when the tainted Matrix was cleansed by Optimus Prime could it be opened within the planet-devourer and destroy him.

In the future, a future that may yet come to pass [provided a lot happens between the end of Marvel's G2 and the year 2005] Unicron returned. At this time, Optimus Prime was dead, and Megatron floated through space near death. Unicron reshaped the Decepticon leader into Galvatron. But, thanks in part to Galvatron betraying his new master, the Autobot Hot Rod inherited the Matrix and managed to open it inside of Unicron, becoming the new Autobot leader Rodimus Prime in the process. Unicron's physical form was again demolished, with the exception of his head.

Unicron directed his robotic head to crash-land on the planet Junk, where he enslaved the Junkion inhabitants using his mind-control powers, forcing them to rebuild him. He had Death's Head assassinate Shockwave and replace him with his own puppets, Cyclonus and Scourge. At his command, they started an all-out war on Cybertron, where there had previously been a stalemate. Rodimus Prime learnt of Unicron's presence on Junk, travelled there, and trapped his essence within the Matrix as Wreck Gar destroyed his partially completed body with explosives. Cyclonus and Scourge were sent back in time several hundred years, and came under the command of Scorponok.

On return from the "Time Wars" of 1989/2009, Rodimus's group of Autobots found themselves in an alternate future where Galvatron had never gone back in time, and now ruled Cybertron. While they were in this reality Unicron possessed Rodimus, within whom he and the Matrix now resided, and caused severe Autobot casualties before his influence was cut off.

In 2010, on Cybertron, Unicron repeated this trick. This time Rodimus himself took on the appearance of Unicron. Great devastation and many deaths resulted before Prime could reassert control once more.

In 2356, the tainted Matrix made Rodimus Prime grow weak and Unicron started influencing him more subtlely. In 2510 the Autobots began fighting and killing each other following a massive victory over the Decepticons. Unicron's handiwork could not be ruled out.
